CEMETERY & CEREMONY

FOUNDER STORY

The idea for future urban cemetery began in South Korea in 2013 by Paul J. Kang, who wanted to convey to the public that death is not the end. However, it wasn't until 2015 when he moved to New York City that the current direction and activities began in earnest.

That's when the concept of conceptual design of cemeteries and death-related products in urban spaces, projects to change perceptions in urban design where people live, and campaign approaches began to take shape.

Paul aims to change perceptions of death through conceptual design of cemeteries and death-related products in urban spaces. The idea originated in South Korea in 2013 and gained momentum in New York City in 2015.

Future Cemetery Solution Design

Design a cemetery to address the city's problems caused by climate change, rising sea levels, and the shortage of burial spaces. This innovative solution will include an underwater cemetery, where graves are submerged beneath the ocean; a hologram cemetery, where digital representations of the deceased are displayed; an underground cemetery, which utilizes subterranean spaces for burials; and even a space cemetery, where remains are sent into outer space. Each of these options aims to provide sustainable and respectful solutions to the growing challenges faced by urban areas.

Hybrid Memorial Home Solution

A memorial home that not only contains a life story and cremation urns but is also connected to a virtual memorial home. This virtual space is designed to preserve and share people’s digital contents, allowing friends and family to remember and celebrate the deceased's life in a comprehensive and meaningful way.

SIM Eternal Ceremony

Future cemetery design aims to address the shortage of burial spaces by introducing an innovative solution. This involves conducting another memorial ceremony for people buried in the graveyard after a period of 10 years. During this ceremony, the physical graves will be relocated to a virtual graveyard, thereby freeing up space in the real graveyard. This method not only preserves the memory of the deceased but also ensures that burial spaces remain available for future generations.
